Deodato Siquir is a force of rhythm and cross-cultural synergy. Hailing from Maputo, Mozambique, his musical journey began in childhood, crafting his first drum set from found objects before joining his first band at age 13. His prodigious talent led him to perform with professional orchestras by 15 and establish himself as a sought-after sideman for a generation of iconic Mozambican artists throughout the 1990s.

A pivotal figure in Mozambique's music scene, he founded the influential band Mozafro and contributed to landmark projects like Music from Mozambique (Caprice Records, 1999) and the charitable Mozambique Relief compilation (2000).

His relocation to Scandinavia in 2001 marked a new chapter, where he swiftly became a linchpin of the regional jazz and world music circuit.

As a bandleader, Siquir's vision is captured on three acclaimed albums:  Balanço (2007), Mutema(2011), and TOGETHER (2023). Each has earned a place in the World Music Charts Europe Top 10, a rare feat underscoring his international resonance.

Awarded the Ngoma Moçambique Discovery Prize in 2008, he is renowned for his electrifying stage presence—described as a "livewire" performance—and his vast collaborative network spanning hundreds of artists across Europe and Africa.

Deodato Siquir's career is a testament to music's power to connect, uplift, and transcend borders.
