
Childo Tomás

Childo Tomás is a Mozambican bassist, composer and performer with a solid international career in the jazz and world music circuits, currently based in Barcelona. His musical language seamlessly blends the traditional sounds of Mozambique with contemporary jazz, improvisation, African groove and Afro-Latin influences, resulting in a sound that is both deeply rooted and distinctly modern.
Throughout his international career, Childo Tomás has collaborated with some of the most respected figures in global music, most notably through a long-standing partnership with Cuban pianist Omar Sosa. As bassist, percussionist and vocalist, he has contributed to major projects and recordings such as Promise, Afreecanos, Across the Divide and Ceremony, performing at leading festivals and renowned venues across Europe, the Americas and Africa.
Beyond his work with Omar Sosa, Childo Tomás has collaborated with a wide range of artists and ensembles including Zeze Lokito, Unison, Mogha Africa, David Cervera, Sora and Luis Mbomio, highlighting his versatility and cross-cultural musical fluency.
As a solo artist, he has released the albums Moçambique Ni N’tumbuluku and Messengers, acclaimed for their fusion of electric bass, traditional percussion, voice and African spirituality. On stage, Childo Tomás delivers powerful and immersive performances, offering audiences a rich, rhythmic and emotionally engaging experience—making him a compelling choice for international jazz, world music and contemporary African music festivals.
