SMP Evolution is a jazz project with a strong influence of Mozambican music in particular and African music in general, led by drummer, producer, composer, booker, and social activist Stélio Mondlane. The project stands as a dynamic platform for musical innovation, blending traditional African elements with contemporary jazz, creating a distinctive and globally resonant sound.

With an extensive career in the music industry, Stélio Mondlane has performed at some of the most renowned festivals across Africa and Europe, including Azgo Festival and More Jazz Series (Mozambique), Bushfire (Eswatini), MASA Festival (Ivory Coast), Lugano Festival (Switzerland), Lents Festival (Slovenia), and Joy of Jazz (South Africa), among many others. Throughout his journey, he has collaborated and shared stages with internationally acclaimed artists such as Andy Narell, Hugh Masekela, Judith Sephuma, Hip Hop Pantsula, Oliver Mtukudzi, Richard Bona, Dave Koz, Vinx, Lira, as well as leading Mozambican artists including Stewart Sukuma, Moreira Chonguiça, Mingas, Ivan Mazuze, and Isabel Novella.

Beyond performance, Stélio Mondlane is deeply engaged in social impact initiatives, particularly in projects related to autism awareness, while maintaining active collaborations with artists such as Leyna Souto, Nkhuvu, Assa Matusse & Jimmy Dludlu, among others. His work reflects a strong belief in music as a tool for social transformation and collective awareness.

A recipient of two Ngoma Mozambique Awards, Stélio Mondlane has released a CD and a DVD, and is currently preparing his second studio album. His artistic approach goes beyond technical excellence—each performance, composition, and recording becomes an emotional exchange, translating everyday experiences into powerful musical narratives that connect deeply with audiences.

Constantly aligned with the social, cultural, and artistic pulse of the present, Stélio Mondlane transforms both the beauty and the challenges of the world into meaningful artistic expression, earning increasing recognition both in Mozambique and internationally.

The project recently marked a new chapter with the release of its latest single, “This is Africa”, a bold and celebratory statement that affirms identity, unity, and the richness of the African continent.
