Damas do Planalto

Damas do Planalto is a Mozambican female vocal trio that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Makonde plateau through a vibrant fusion of traditional music and contemporary arrangements.

 

Composed of Júlia Mwitu, Raquel Akungondo, and Carla José, the group brings together powerful voices, storytelling, and expressive performance rooted in ancestral traditions.

 

Their music draws inspiration from traditional Makonde songs and dances, often performed during community celebrations and rites of passage, reinterpreted with modern instrumentation and production. This creates a unique sound that is both authentic and accessible to diverse audiences across cultural and geographic boundaries.
