Wazimbo is one of Mozambique’s most iconic voices and a leading figure of marrabenta on the African and global music scene. With a career spanning several decades, he rose to international prominence as the lead vocalist of the legendary Orquestra Marrabenta Star de Moçambique, a project that brought Mozambican music to major stages around the world.
His signature song, “Nwahulwana,” became a global classic, featuring on international African music compilations and later included in the soundtrack of the Hollywood film The Pledge (2001), starring Jack Nicholson. The song firmly established Wazimbo as an artist of deep emotional expression and cultural authenticity.
